Catherine Macharia, Nurse Practitioner

I always wanted to be a doctor, but I became a nurse and realized I wanted to become a Nurse Practitioner. I joined Element Care in May 2026 and specialize in Internal Medicine.

When it comes to patient care, I am here to help my patients meet their needs. We are a team. Treating the whole person means looking at the whole picture. For example, a patient may prefer not to be admitted to a rehab facility for a CHF exacerbation because they have a pet that cannot be left alone. I take those preferences seriously.

To support my patients’ wellness, I encourage exercise even if gentle, such as walking daily, unless contraindicated, for general mental well-being. Walking outdoors, listening to nature sounds, and feeling a gentle breeze is therapeutic.

The population I am most committed to is the geriatric population. I feel that they have a lot of wisdom to offer in their care, and need to be given the time, patience and respect that they deserve. I am excited about geriatric medicine and all the advances in care that have been made so far in keeping patients home more and reducing unnecessary hospitalizations.

To me, health equity means everyone being entitled to quality care, regardless of age, ethnicity, health literacy, or geographical area.

What I find most meaningful about my work is the connection made from the continuity of care, and the seemingly small but special words of “thank you” from a patient when you do your job selflessly.

Outside of medicine, I enjoy singing at my local church and teaching the congregation about health and wellness. I also enjoy listening to country music, old and new.
