In his native Dominican Republic, Jose Bueno worked as a lawyer and eventually served as a senator. When he was diagnosed with cancer, his children urged him to come to the US for treatment at MGH. With five of his six children living in Lynn, it was natural for Jose to become a citizen and settle here, too. When Jose began to look for an agency that could provide medical care, interpreter services, and transportation, he was referred to our PACE program. Jose wanted to be independent but didn’t speak English or drive, so the PACE model was perfect for his needs. Jose has received care, transportation, and interpreter services through our Friend Street Adult Day Health program for 13 years now.

Continuing his commitment to public service, Jose became a member of our Participant Advisory Committee. He calls upon the skills he learned as a public defender to represent his fellow participants and to communicate with them on behalf of the PAC.
